Watch the dancing nemophila at the Hitachi Seaside Park
If you've missed the cherry blossoms around the Tokyo area but still wish to see the beauty of spring in Japan, then visit the Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki. Known for its vast, rolling hills spread across an area of 350 hectares, the Hitachi Seaside Park is easily accessible from Tokyo and makes for a perfect one-day getaway.
From late April to mid-May, you can see gorgeous nemophila flowers in full bloom in an area aptly called the "Nemophila Hill." As many as 4.5 million nemophila flowers start painting the whole hill called Miharashi no Oka in bright blue. There are many spots to take pictures of the nemophila.
From the top of the hills, you can even see the sea in the distance matching the hues of these flowers.
From the bottom of the hills, you can snap photos with the nemophila blue merging with the clear blue spring sky. The blue hill blends into the blue sky and it feels like you are walking in the sky.
Don't forget to visit the area with rape flowers, which bloom at the same time. You can also walk through the many paths cutout through these hills.
Many couples come here to shoot photos in their wedding attire.
You can also buy nemophila-inspired treats like nemophila castella, soft serves, etc.
The best way to navigate through the park is by using the rental bicycles available at 400 yen for three hours, 500 yen for a whole day. For tandem bicycles, you pay the amount for two people.
Another option is to take the sea side train, which costs 600 yen for a day, but the queues can be exhausting.
No matter when you visit, you're bound to see crowds during this time. However, make sure to avoid visiting during the Golden Week holidays in Japan.
