One of the best things about traveling in Japan is enjoying the seasonal changes in nature and seasonal products on display in shops that are in sync with nature. Be it green of summer or pink of spring, red of autumn or white of winter, lifestyle stores reflect the mood and colors of the season.
In this feature, we introduce some of the many autumn products that will be available for the next few months.
Starbucks "You Are Here" Collection
Although an American franchise, Starbucks Japan is immensely popular even among foreigners for its adorable products. In fact, many eagerly wait for the newest seasonal series that make for excellent presents!
Stationery
Japan is paradise for any stationery lover. From exclusive products at stores like Loft, Tokyu Hands, Itoya to 100 yen stuff, there is something for everyone.
Letter pads, greeting cards, stickers and washi tape are all affordable and ideal presents for all age groups.

Momiji Bonsai
One of the first words that pops up when one thinks of Japan is Bonsai. Many travelers admire how restaurants and ryokan display bonsai in windows, along corridors and at entrances. A bonsai kit that can be used to grow your own "momiji" (Japanese maple)!
Cloth purses and pouches
Chrysanthemum is known as the flower of autumn and historically, the chrysanthemum has a cultural significance in Japan. In Japan, the Kikumon (chrysanthemum seal) was originally the ancestral symbol of the Japanese imperial family representing the emperor, and members of the Imperial family, as the symbol of state sovereignty. So you are bound to find many products that feature the chrysanthemum!
Kitchen goods
If you have a friend who loves baking or cooking, these fruit picks with the maple motif would make for an ideal present.
Sweets and beverages
When you speak of souvenirs (omiyage), most Japanese immediately think of food. So with the change in season, the food sections of department stores are packed with autumn-themed treats including senbei (rice crackers) and wagashi (Japanese sweets).

Tenugui (cotton towels)
Another popular item is tenugui. Made from cotton, these are usually printed using a traditional technique called "chusen" and can be used as wall decoration too.
Most of the goods above are available at lifestyle stores like Tokyu Hands, Loft and department stores like Isetan, Takashimaya, etc. Daiso and Seria (100 yen shops) also have plenty seasonal products for those on a budget!
