A new landmark in Japan that is becoming famous, introducing the GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA!! Those familiar with Gundam might assume this one is also in Odaiba, but as the name suggests, it is actually in Yokohama! GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA will be held from December 19, 2020 until March 31, 2022. Besides the moving Gundam, there are many other points of interest here. Let's check out what's in store here.
GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA is at Motomachi-Chukagai in Kanagawa Prefecture. Motomachi-Chukagai station (Minatomirai Line) is about 40 minutes by train from Tokyo or Shibuya Station. Take Exit 4 from Motomachi-Chukagai Station and the site is about a seven-minute walk.
As you walk up to the GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA, you will see a building with unique Gundam patterns and colors. You can buy tickets here on the day or reserve them in advance online. Admission tickets cost is 1,650 yen for adults to the Factory while a GUNDAM-DOCK TOWER ticket is 3,300 yen.
To book online, a BANDAI ID is required; those booking online will receive a QR code via email that you need to show at the entrance. https://gundam-factory.eventos.tokyo/web/portal/151/event/265/
When entering, you will receive a Gundam assembly kit that you can take home!
The entrance is beautifully designed featuring various images of the process of creating Gundam preparing you for a different world.
And before you know it, you will see a large Gundam right in front of your eyes.
The show times for Startup Experiment and Standby Mode are alternately every 30 minutes.
This Gundam is 18 meters tall and can move his arms, legs and head. The background music in sync with movements is very cool, something no Gundam fan should miss!
You can walk around this Gundam and get a thorough view of all sides.
When the Gundam is turned sideways as in the image, you can take a close-up photo in front of it from the GUNDAM-DOCK TOWER.
GUNDAM-DOCK TOWER
On the right side of the Gundam is the entrance to GUNDAM-DOCK TOWER. You can show your QR code to enter. There are lockers at the entrance, so leave your belongings in there and wait in line to go up to the 6th floor for a close-up view.
As with most viewing spots, there is a glass partition and hopefully you get to visit on a clear day to take awesome photos.
ACADEMY
Here you can learn how a Gundam is configured by looking at the posters that have both English and Japanese captions.
THE GUNDAM BASE
And what Gundam fans wouldn't want to buy some amazing Gundam souvenirs. At the end of your visit, check out the GUNDAM BASE for a fantastic range of Gundam souvenirs.
There are several Gundam figures that can only be purchased here and be careful as there is a limit to how many one person can buy!
Other than the figures, you can pick up cheaper items like snacks and stationery.
These would make perfect presents for friends or family that love Gundam.

You can also buy some Gundam gachapon (capsule toys) that usually cost about 300-500 yen!
