If you want to enjoy the beauty of the ocean right in the heart of a city, then visit the Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa. A unique aquarium, it is a combination of art, light, sound and the natural marine world.
You can book tickets in advance online or buy them at the entrance. Although it is highly recommended to reserve in advance to avoid disappointment.
There are several zones in Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa, and in this feature, we show you some of them.
At the entrance, you will see Port of Pirates and you can even enjoy a ship ride bumping through the waves for 500 yen.
From December 29, 2021 to February 27, 2022, you can enjoy the NAKED SNOW AQUARIUM show. NAKED Inc. is known for producing unbelievably beautiful light shows all over Japan. Here, you can see a gorgeous collaboration of light with the sea world.
As you can see, this is no ordinary aquarium. The fish in tanks are lit up in blue with sparkling snow crystals. Feels magical, doesn't it?
Images of large whales gliding along can be seen at the Bright Snow zone. If you see any circles on the display, touch them for an interactive experience as the lights respond to your touch.
Pearls gently resting on coral look so elegant.
In the Crystal Bar Zone, you can order food and drinks on tables that function as fish tanks.
The drinks are created to suit the theme.
Each table is set up to showcase different sea creatures.
There are even fish eggs that are incubating in this one.
You can learn quite a lot as each table provides a description.
Jellyfish Ramble Zone is probably one of the best. Escape into the dark and mysterious world of jellyfish as they bounce around.
You can see how the light plays with their transparent bodies, whether they are babies or fully grown.
Each of the columns have a different variety and you can see their beauty vary with the changing light colors.
Wonder Tube makes you feel like you're on the ocean floor. Walk through this tunnel and be surrounded by marine life.
You will see manta rays, dwarf fish, clown anemonefish, and many more stunning creatures. It is mesmerising to follow all the movements and colors flashing by you.
If you love to fish, this is a great place to try and spot some of your favorite varieties.
You can even spot otters and seals in the Wild Street area.

And how adorable are the little penguins?
There is also an Aqua Jungle zone which focuses on fresh water creatures.
Here, you have a capybara soaking in a hot spring.
The most exciting part of visiting Maxell Aqua Park is the Dolphin show. The show is divided into two parts, "Harmony for winter" and "BRIGHT CRYSTAL" by NAKED. It is exhilarating to say the least as you see the beautiful dolphins perform for you.
If you are visiting Tokyo with family, this is a must visit as it is the most artistic aquarium in Japan.
