Akiu Onsen

(Source : pixta)
Akiu Onsen has an excellent access being only a 30-minute drive away from the center of Sendai, and is counted as one of Oshu's top three onsen spots along with Naruko Onsen in Miyagi prefecture and Iizaka Onsen in Fukushima prefecture. It is an honorable onsen town where even Sendai's former ruler Masamune Date once bathed, and due to the high number of historic ryokan and large upscale hotels, it also serves as "Sendai's hospitality hall" for receiving guests. Most of the accommodations in Akiu Onsen offer transportation from Sendai station, which is very convenient for travelers. In its surroundings, there is one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls Akiu O-taki, as well as museums, workshops and many great tourist spots.
