Himeji City Museum of Art is a museum made of red bricks, situated right next to Himeji Castle which is chosen as a World Cultural Heritage. It used to be a warehouse of the army. It later became the city hall of Himeji. In 1983, it was opened as a museum. The almost 100-year-old building looks very beautiful with Himeji Castle next to it. I recommend you to enjoy this view while walking in the garden, where sculptures are exhibited. This museum contains various artworks, such as contemporary French art and Belgian and Japanese art. It is a great place to stop by when you come see Himeji Castle.

Enjoy a walk while admiring the beautiful, historical building

Himeji City Museum of Art is a historical building, recognized as a National Cultural Tangible Property in 2003. The view of the World Cultural Heritage, Himeji Castle, with this museum made of red bricks is so beautiful. In fact, many people come to see this view. Furthermore, there are 13 sculptures exhibited around the building in the garden. You shouldn't miss them either.

Great collection

In this museum, there are many artworks of contemporary French art from the 19th to 20th centuries, including the works of Monet and Delvaux. Relax at a cafe after contemplating on art

There is a relaxing cafe, Museum Cafe Harimakko on the first floor of the museum. I recommend you to try the baked doughnut in this cafe. The simple taste created from eggs and butter is very popular. It is a great place to rest after visiting Himeji Castle and the museum.

Approx. 20-min walk from Himeji Station on JR and Sanyo Dentsu Lines. Or approx. 7-min bus ride on Shinki bus. Get off at Himeyama Park south, Medical center, in front of the museum.
