Hyogo Prefectural Museum of History

Hyogo Prefectural Museum of History

Opened in 1983, Hyogo Prefectural Museum of History is a museum dedicated to teach the history and culture of Hyogo. In 2007, it has been renovated into a facility where both small children and the elderly would enjoy. As a result, you can learn about Himeji Castle and its castle town in a virtual imaging corner. All these documents are available in the area where you can enter for free. It is also a great place to learn about children's cultures and festivals of Hyogo (note this is not a free zone). The museum is situated at a 5-min walk from Himeji Castle. Therefore, I recommend you to drop by when you visit the castle.

Inside the facility, there is a rich collection of exhibitions concerning the history of Hyogo, its castle and the life in the castle town. There is also a Children's museum where you can learn about cultures related to childhood from the Edo period to today. You can see exhibitions on the festivals of Hyogo as well. It would be a great place to learn everything about Hyogo.

You shouldn't miss feature exhibitions of this museum. Each periodical exhibition features different themes at each time. There were exhibitions related to Himeji Castle, statues of Buddha, old paintings, etc. There was even an exhibition on Japanese ghosts. It is interesting to see exhibitions on various topics.

In the facility, there is an area on the first floor where you can enter for free. You can see the reconstruction of the building that looks like an old house of the common people.
