Kagoshima Amami Park

Kagoshima Amami Park is located in the northern part of Amami Oshima Island in Kagoshima prefecture. The park consists of several facilities. There is Amami-no-Sato where visitors can learn about Amami's ocean, life in a village and forests. In the Tanaka Isson Memorial Museum of Art, a Japanese-style painter Isson Tanaka's art works of Amami are displayed. The park also features a multipurpose plaza as well as an outdoor stage. Visitors can access information on the Amami Islands, such as Amami Oshima, Kikaijima, Tokunoshima, Okino-erabu jima and Yoronto.

Amami-no-Sato

The facility is divided into three zones: Umi-no-Michi (ocean road), Shima-no-Michi (island road) and Mori-no-Michi (forest road). Each zone introduces the history and the culture of Amami through photos and life-size models. Visitors can witness the unique culture of Amami people who have lived with nature taking cues from the cycles of the moon, the seasonal wind and bird migration.

Tanaka Isson Memorial Museum of Art

Isson Tanaka was born in 1908. He was captivated by the nature of Amami and immigrated at the age of 50. He worked on his paintings that feature the plants and animals of Amami Island while simultaneously working in a factory of Oshima Tsumugi (type of pongee fabric). The museum regularly showcases about 90 works of art from over 450 pieces.

An Observation Deck that Looks Over the Amazing Nature of Amami

From the free observation deck in the park, a 360-degree panoramic view of Amami's fascinating nature and the Amami Airport can be seen. It is popular for its stunning view. There are many kinds of tropical plants throughout the park. You will enjoy the relaxing atmosphere.
