Kumobaike

(Source : pixta)
Kumobaike is counted as one of the top three famous spots in Karuizawa. Back in the day, swans used to come here in winter and thus, the lake was nicknamed "Swan Lake" by foreign tourists visiting Karuizawa. There is a path around the lake that you can walk around in about 20-25 minutes, so visitors can enjoy the beauty of each season as the surroundings are reflected on the lake surface while taking a quiet stroll. On a still, windless day, you may encounter a magical moment when the surface of the lake seems like a mirror.

 Fresh Green of Spring

You will be impressed by the vivid green of the plants and trees that stretch out over the lake. Especially in the season of new green leaves, the freshness in the air will refresh you from deep within. On a sunny day, the lake looks even more beautiful with the blue sky and white clouds creating reflections in the water.

Autumn Foliage

The beautiful reflection of the fiery, red leaves on the lake is overwhelming. This fantastic sight will make you feel as if you are in a dream. The lake becomes very lively with many visitors coming from all over the country to see this view. Best time to view autumnal hues is between late October and early November.

Snowscapes

Despite the stinging cold, Kumobaike in snowy winters is one of the most beautiful sights. The blue of the sky with the snow-covered trees in contrast with the reflection in the lake is breathtakingly beautiful. We highly recommend taking a walk early in the morning when you can enjoy the clear air and the shimmering lake all to yourself.
