National Treasure: Seated Statue of Yakushi Nyorai
This seated statue of Yakushi Nyorai was made around the 9th century and had been enshrined in Nyakuoji-sha in Kyoto. The face has large eyes with long slits and has features similar to Indian-style Buddha statues. The robe is draped elegantly creating a beautiful flow. Most of the statue was carved from a Japanese nutmeg tree.

National Treasure: Statue of Eleven-faced Kannon
Statue of eleven-faced Kannon was painted in the 12th century and is one of the precious paintings registered as a national treasure. Eleven faces each with a different expression such as a calm face, an angry face, a laughing face, and so on, are painted on top of the Kannon head. It is a beautiful recreation of the Kannon statue and is painted in a light pink hue and delicate detailed lines.

Jigoku Zoshi is a hand scroll depicting Buddhist hells with drawings and compositions considered to be painted in the 12th century. Despite its horrific image, it somehow has a gentleness to it. The composition describes sins that will result in sending someone to hell. *These national treasures are not always on exhibit. Prior confirmation is required.
