Sankeien

Sankeien is a traditional Japanese-style garden built in an 6-hectare area adjacent to Hiroshima airport. The name Sankeien means "garden of three views." As the name suggests, the garden has three views of “countryside,” “mountains,” and “ocean.” Each zone has seasonal greenery and flowers. Events related to Japanese traditional events are held almost every month. It is a place that represents Japanese culture that values the feel of every season.

Countryside Zone

The countryside zone represents the image of a country village in good old Japan. It has a relaxing bamboo grove, Japanese plum orchard, the valley of maple trees, and a pond. It shows traditional Japanese people’s life surrounded by nature. The best season to see plum blossoms is in March, and autumn leaves is in November.

Mountain Zone

Once you set foot in the mountain zone, you feel like you are really in the mountains. The attraction here is a three-step waterfall 14 meters high. It imitates the three-step waterfall in Hiroshima. Although it is a man-made waterfall, its powerful flow of water is stunning.

Ocean Zone

It also has Chokentei, a building constructed above water. It imitates Itsukushima Jinja, the shrine which is one of the most famous World Heritage sites in Hiroshima.
