Takegawara Onsen

(Source : )
Takegawara Onsen (hot spring) is an old public bath established in 1879. The current building built in 1938 has a magnificent air since it was built using Karahafu,  a roof shape unique to Japan from 800s, and is designated as a registered tangible cultural property. In this building, there are baths for men and women, as well as their special feature, a sand bath. Sand bath involves warming up your body by covering it with warm sand heated by onsen. Your mind and body will be relaxed when you get warm in this retro atmosphere onsen.

Famous sand bath

The sand bath of Takegawara Onsen is a unisex facility. After you lay on the sand wearing a special yutaka (summer cotton kimono), a staff member called "Sunakake-san" covers your body with sand. The sand heated by onsen will warm you up to the core.

Onsen effective for muscle pain and burns

Takegawara Onsen is a hydrogen carbonate spring and is said to be effective for muscle pain, cuts, burns and problems with digestive organs. Despite it being inside, the ceiling is high, so the atmosphere is very relaxing. Make yourself at home at the lobby that has a feel of 1930's Japan.
